STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

How to geotag photos and videos

Geotagging means writing GPS coordinates — latitude and longitude — into a photo or video's metadata so anyone (including Google) can see exactly where it was taken. It's useful for local SEO, property and site photography, drone work, and keeping large shoots organised. With Atlas EXIF you do it in four steps, entirely in your browser.

1. Add your photos or videos

Drop your files straight into the batch. Atlas EXIF handles JPEG, HEIC and PNG photos plus MP4 and MOV videos. The free plan covers 3 photos and 1 video per rolling 24 hours; Pro batches 20 files at once, Studio up to 100.

Tip: Everything happens locally in your browser — your files are never uploaded to a server.

2. Pin the location on the map

Click anywhere on the interactive OpenStreetMap map or search for an address, postcode or landmark. Drop one pin and apply it to the whole batch, or fine-tune the location for each file individually — handy for shoots that span a street or venue.

Tip: Zoom right in for precision: the exact latitude and longitude you pick are what gets written into the file.

3. Write titles, descriptions and keywords

Every file can carry a title, description, keywords and alt text. Type them yourself, or connect your business profile and let AI draft them — then edit anything before it's written. These fields are stored alongside the GPS data in the file's metadata.

Tip: Consistent, location-rich descriptions help search engines understand where your photos were taken.

4. Export your tagged files

Download each file individually or grab the entire batch in one click. Photos get real EXIF GPS tags; videos get standards-compliant ISO 6709 location written into the QuickTime metadata. You can also export a CSV spreadsheet, a KML file for Google Earth, or an SEO report of everything you tagged.

Tip: The Route button draws a numbered trail of your pins on the map — useful for site surveys and property shoots.

Why geotag at all?
  • Local SEO: location metadata on images supports the places your business serves and reinforces your Google Business Profile signals.
  • Proof of work: time-stamped, location-tagged photos document site visits, inspections and completed jobs.
  • Organisation: a KML export turns a batch into a browsable map — far easier than hunting through folders.
